Just Get Star Ted!

This game is my entry for Shovel Jam 2025.

The theme for this jam was "Just Get Started!", with the idea being to either make a game that involved just getting something started, or for the entrant to just getting started actually making a game. I decided instead to go the punny route and ended up here.

In this game, you will play as a star named Ted, who is being pursued by the evil Black Hole-iness to satiate her voracious hunger. You will need to dodge other stars that will try and grab and drag you into her event horizon. You also have 3 solar flares that can be used to vaporize any stars on the screen. Use them sparingly though because you won't get any more!

Controls:

• Move Ted: WASD or arrow keys
• Solar Flare: Space bar

My inspiration for this game was old arcade games where you can learn the controls and rules really fast, but it'll take hours of practice and careful study of patterns to get good.

This is my first game jam and in fact the first game I've ever shared publicly. I hope you enjoy my game, or at least smile a little at the ridiculous interpretation of the theme.

I welcome any constructive criticism to help me hone my skills more.
